Mike O’Boyle is the Senior Director of Policy and Strategy at Energy Innovation, where he leads the firm’s policy strategy. He helps oversee deep sectoral analysis and develops practical strategies to reduce emissions across several of the world’s highest-emitting sectors, including electricity, industry, and fuels and chemicals. Mike works with policymakers and other decision-makers to develop effective, equitable, and durable climate and energy policy.
Previously, Mike led the firm’s Electricity program, where he worked to advance an affordable, reliable, and clean power system. His work has focused on modernizing utility regulation and wholesale electricity markets, accelerating clean-energy and transmission development, strengthening power-sector planning and reliability, and managing electricity-demand growth while protecting consumers. His work also includes clean electricity standards, distributed energy resources, utility business models, power-plant emissions, and clean hydrogen.
He has written for Forbes, Canary Media, The Hill, the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and Utility Dive.
Before joining Energy Innovation, Mike graduated cum laude from Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where he focused on energy and international law. He also has a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in philosophy and Asian Studies, with a minor in economics.
