California’s transportation sector emits the greatest share of the state’s climate and conventional air pollutants. Today, electrification is the most technologically feasible and affordable method of decarbonizing this sector, but the inability to reliably charge electric vehicles at multi-unit dwellings prevents many Californians from purchasing or leasing EVs.
This report summarizes a virtual workshop with top academic, non-profit, industry, and governmental leaders convened with the aim of identifying barriers to increasing electric vehicle charging access for multi-unit dwellers in California and proposing solutions to those barriers that advance California’s climate goals, while also promoting equity. The event was co-hosted with the Plug-in Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Research Center at the University of California, Davis Institute for Transportation Studies (ITS-Davis) on August 31, 2020.
