Jenny Edwards is the Director of Philanthropic Research with Energy Innovation, where she evaluates new and existing opportunities with rigorous, science-based research to maximize carbon savings and ensure robust evaluation of project progress.
Jenny has 25 years experience in the energy and climate field, spanning research, planning, policy design and implementation, and facilitation. Prior to joining Energy Innovation, she worked at the Center for Energy and Environment, a clean energy nonprofit serving the Upper Midwest. As CEE’s Director of Planning and Engagement, Jenny launched and directed the organization’s local government programs. She also led the organization’s integration of applied research, policy, planning, and stakeholder outreach on grid decarbonization and beneficial electrification, focused on driving pathways to carbon-free electrification in cold climate states.
Jenny’s past research experience includes positions with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Electricity Markets and Policy Group, University of California, Berkeley’s Renewable and Appropriate Energy Lab, the MIT-USGS Science Impact Collaborative, and the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment. She served as an Adjunct Professor at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs for three years, designing and teaching a graduate course on Energy Systems and Policy. She has experience researching, piloting, and implementing clean energy policy, with particular emphasis on the built environment.
Jenny holds a B.A. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She currently resides in Bellingham, Washington with her husband, son, daughter, and two mostly well-behaved dogs.
